Joe Rogan – The Corporate Trap

This excerpt from the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast explores how seemingly good corporate jobs by normal standards are restricting personal growth in society. Joe explains how corporate culture, work/life imbalance, and materialism contribute to a lack of self expression.

So, get it together, and this is your life now. No natural behavior, everybody’s wearing clothes they don’t want to wear, everybody’s showing up and doing something they don’t want to do and they have no connection to… that’s the problem with our society.

Joe seems to hit on some pretty solid points in this short video. The main point that I find in this is to actively pursue your interests until your passion reveals itself, and then explore that passion until it has given you everything that it can.

It is difficult to remove money as the motivator of our lives. It is difficult to see the potential in our passions, but just remember as Joseph Campbell said, “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.”

The Blank Canvass of Life – Can We Engineer Divinity?

Jason Silva’s latest Shot of awe explores the concept of engineering your own divinity. The idea is that life is a blank canvass, and the surroundings in which we choose to exist can and does affect our mental and emotional states. It’s like a feedback loop where our mind creates an atmosphere or environment which then turns around and alters our mode of thought resulting in continued evolution down manufactured emotional and mental canals.

Those spaces we built, “the architectures of happiness” as Alain de Botton writes, the spaces we create inform, shape, sculpt our subjective experience…. we script intention into our designs and those designs in turn script our subjective experience.

This is a great concept to take to heart. Our ability to create the world we want to live in is very real. I follow this philosophy as a general guideline to help manufacture serendipity and inspiration into my own life.

As Terrence McKenna so poignantly states, “We are living in the condensation of our imaginations”

Over 100,000 People Enlist to Colonize Mars

A group over 100,000 people have submitted applications for a one-way trip to colonize Mars in 2022.This means that they are willing to forfeit everything that they know and love for a chance to be the first humans to travel to and cosmoscolonize an alien planet.

There’s something in that concept that’s majestic and kind of poetic, in a way that they are writing human history and taking huge risks to do so. Mars One is behind the project, and when asked on their FAQ, “Why go to Mars?” they responded as follows.

Why did Columbus travel west? Why did Marco Polo head east? Because it is that pull, that unknown, that prospect of adventure that compels humans to seek new frontiers to explore.

It does seem a part of the human condition to explore the unknown, and there are certainly viable reasons for expanding human life to other planetary bodies, but is it even possible, and will Mars One actually be able to pay for such a mission?

The not-for-profit organization plans to fund the $6 billion mission “by making it the biggest media spectacle in history”. This includes reality shows that will follow the astronauts’ eight year training that will teach them medical Mars Oneprocedures, construction and repair, and gardening techniques among many other necessary skills.

These shows will continue as the explorers land and begin developing a livable habitat. I would certainly watch that over the reality t.v. that is currently available, but I’m doubtful that it would be enough to fund the mission. They do have other sources from donations, merchandise sales, application fees, investors, and so on, but let’s just hope that it is enough to get this idea off of the ground.

There are other companies and even universities that are working on similar concepts. Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX has mentioned future plans for “Martian bases” and has already made significant progress in private spaceflight.

Would you sign-up to colonize Mars? If the answer is yes, sign-up, applications are still being taken.

Dying Professor Delivers Powerful Speech

Brick Walls

This is Professor Randy Pausch who’s video I happened upon tonight and wanted to take the time to share it here. Pausch finds that it is not the duration of our life that is the most important; however, it is more important to fill our lives with passion and love.

We beat the reaper by living well, and living fully… For the reaper will come for all of us. The question is, what do we do between the time that we’re born, and the time that he shows up. Because when he shows up, it’s too late to do all the things that you were always, gunna, kinda get around to.

I don’t think you can really go wrong if you follow those words of wisdom. I try to think of it as creating a life that you would happily and willingly live over and over on purpose.

Life as a Hero’s Journey

This latest Shot of Awe from Jason Silva ties into a recent theme on this site of creating your own reality, following your inspiration, and spreading the resulting positivity.

This video describes living your life as a hero’s journey, or being the protagonist in your life and actively enriching the narrative. These concepts symbolize the process of reflecting inward to discover yourself and your passion, and then being active in pursuing that with as much vigor as you can afford.

Life exists in individual moments, and it is up to us to make sure that those moments are vast, interconnected, and grand… [Doing so] to make a masterpiece out of life, one that we would willingly live again and again for all of eternity, this is what we can strive for.

Thanks for watching, and remember…

Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.

Be the Director in the Film of Your Life

This is a video set to a monologue given by Joe Rogan. He discusses healthy living, being positive, and how to create your own path in life.

Joe is a surprisingly great source for insightfullness, positivity, and blatant honesty.

You have to recognize that all of this morality that you developed is good because it’s good to treat other people good. It’s good to treat other people the way you’d like to be treated yourself…and there’s a reason for it, and that reason is that we are connected in some strange way that we don’t totally understand. And unless you are good to other people around you, unless you are kind, and friendly, and warm, and loving, you’re not going to enjoy this life…And it’s not because of Jesus, and it’s not because of Moses, it’s not because of anybody that may or may not have ever existed; it’s because that’s how you fit in better with the world… That’s how you stay positive.

The video starts getting good around the 1:00 mark.

Geeks Without Frontiers – Worldwide Internet Access by 2020

GEEKS Without Frontiers, has unveiled an initiative with the goal of providing worldwide broadband internet by 2020. I came across this today and I absolutely love everything about the initiative and what good it can do for the world.

We are thriving in the digital renaissance where the power of one voice can be heard by millions instantaneously… Where every song, book, and work of art can be available to all in any language.

This global internet connection creates a free flow of ideas and imagination that could not have existed before, but with a worldwide internet access,  our horizons can be expanded daily or even hourly…

These ideas then go on to influence others who then influence others, and by the time the idea reaches the original person that created it, the idea has shifted and flowered into something more beautiful and amazing than it could have ever been on its own. These feedback loops accelerate our social evolution and help create global communities.

These are the things I find that give me so much hope. They excites me for the future and the possibilities it holds. Remember everyday that the world is getting better, and that everything is not as gloom and doom and depressing as the media may often portray it. If you love this idea, and it gives you hope, and makes you smile, share it and spread the happiness…

Help us flip the switch and bring a ray of light to the rest of the world through worldwide internet connectivity.

Global Internet

Below is the main site for GEEKS Without Frontiers that I encourage you to check out, as well as another article I found on the topic. Hope you enjoyed.

The GEEKS Mission Statement

Focusing on humanity’s real challenges, GEEKS will leverage the skills of technology leaders, utilize open source software, develop applications for communications, education and commerce, and in conjunction with the Manna Energy Foundation, collaborate on global renewable energy, and clean water projects.

Radical Openness – The Cultivation of Ideas

This short video featuring Jason Silva was shown at the TedGlobal conference on the theme of Radical Openness. Silva explores this topic in an energetic and awe-inspiring way as he explains what radical openness is and the benefits that can result.

What imagination does is it allows us to conceive of delightful future possibilities, pick the most amazing one, and pull the present forward to meet it

Let me know what you think. I love the word play and underlying concept of ideas having sex and growing and competing for our attention.
